A great refuge for all of the different types of birds that migrate to Costa Rica from the North during winter time. Here you will find not just birds but also Crocodiles, Iguanas, Monkeys and much more. All this in a boat trip on the Tempisque River. Also, a typical lunch is included.
Palo Verde National Park is a good place for the fans of bird watching and wild fauna. This tour takes place on an easy boat trip, down the Tempisque River with a bilingual Guide. This river is feed by other very important rivers in the area. On the trip heading to the river we will find along the trees some Iguanas normally resting, while on the shoreline are the crocodiles warming in the sun. Many flying birds as well as across the river we may even see the famous “Jesus Christ Lizard” that runs on top of the water. All this is complemented with the scenic views that surround this big refuge.


The tour consists of a boat ride across the waters of the Tempisque River, which flows into the Gulf of Nicoya, and borders Palo Verde National Park. The park houses great biological diversity and is located on the Pacific slope of Costa Rica, surrounded by rivers, limestone hills and extensive wetlands. Birds are the main attraction at Palo Verde. During the rainy season, the floodwaters of the Tempisque River spread out, creating extensive marshes that are home to cocodriles , iguanas. It also welcomes migratory birds from North and South America. Large numbers of aquatic birds can be seen, such as grebes, cormorants, anhingas, herons, storks, spoonbills, caracaras ,jaçanas and many more.

Mammal fauna is equally rich and visible here, particularly during the dry season, when peccaries, armadillos, , coatis, agoutis, deer, and monkeys, are attracted to the river. There are 13 different habitats within Palo Verde, including mangroves and swampy forests, salty and freshwater marshes, evergreen, lowland,and more.
